Go Skyhawks! - Fear the Feathers

SKYHAWKS INK INITIAL TRACK SIGNEES

Sauk Valley Community College signed its first two track and field student-athletes in a small ceremony held on campus on Thursday, February 21st. Signing a National Letter of Intent to run for the Skyhawks were Dixon High School standouts Alyssa Sigwards and Joshua Dallas.  Both were mainstay sprinters for the Dixon High School teams.

Dixon High School girl’s track and field coach Brandon Woodward had this to say about Alyssa Sigward:  “Alyssa has led Dixon sprints in both the 100 and 200 races in both her junior and senior year. She is a four time conference champion. Her senior year she served as team captain leading in both opens and anchoring sprint relays. We will miss Alyssa for her leadership and ability to set a standard of what we look for our sprinters to become.”

“Josh Dallas runs fearlessly and always rose to the occasion when facing stiff competition.  There was never a doubt that he left it all on the track.  Josh was a both a vocal leader and a leader by example for the Dukes' team.  I'm excited to see him take his enthusiasm for the sport to the collegiate level” commented Ryan Deets, the Dixon High School boy’s track and field coach.

Coach Woodward added “Sauk valley track and field got two of Dixon’s finest, with resumes full of state medals and conference titles. Additionally they are good people that will serve Sauk as great ambassadors. There has always been a serious amount of track and field talent in the Sauk Valley area. I am excited for the present and future athletes that will build a local presence of track and field at the collegiate level.”

“Both Alyssa and Joshua are excited to be part of this new program.  They have each been in my office several times to talk about the next steps and how they can help.  Their motivation and excitement led me to name them as team captains for the 2019-20 school year” said Head Track & Field Coach Michael Stevenson. “Their backgrounds and high levels of participation will help us out tremendously as we start our program.  I am counting on their leadership and motivation to aid us in building our team even before the season starts.”
